Meet The Family
John Lancaster
John Lancaster was born and raised in Portland, ME. His first experience with bagels came in the early 80’s and by the mid 80s he had his first bagel and deli shop in Manchester, NH. After years away from the bagel world he re-emerged on the scene in Scarborough where he and his two sons have been operating a bagel shop for the last 12 years. Now John and his sons enter a new chapter, refocusing their attention to detail and constant pursuit of improvement to bring back John’s own recipes to delight the Scarborough community once again.
Matthew Lancaster
Matthew Lancaster was the catalyst to bring his father John back to the bagel scene in 2006. Matthew’s detail in the back of house and hard work brings our loyal patrons coming back.
Nick Lancaster
Nick Lancaster joined in the family business in 2009 and has worked tirelessly to bring the traditional bagel shop into the new age of today.
The Bagels
We start every day by waking up early and coming in to bake you the freshest bagels and pastries around. All of our foods are made here – never frozen! This includes our bagels, cream cheese, pastries and more! Stop in to see the difference in taste for fresh bagels and say hello.
The Community
The Lancaster family has been involved with the local Scarborough community since 2010, serving families bagels, breakfast and memories. The Maine Bagel has a robust recycling program where all left over bagels are donated to either a food bank, local farmers or composted. We thank you for letting us be part of the community and look to serve you for many years to come.
